15 Very Timely Halloween Costume Ideas

The finest Halloween costumes are often Zeitgeist-esque and easy to put together with items you already own or can readily get online; what matters is that they are well-thought-out and smart, rather than hurried and cheaply made. So, in order to help you get organised, we’ve put together a list of the top pop culture Halloween costumes once more. There’s plenty of material for Halloween Costume parties even though 2024 is still a few months away. Notable events from the year include an indicted mayor and a total solar eclipse, among many other noteworthy ones. There is something for Halloween enthusiasts of all ages below, including dancing scammers, attractive tennis players, and well-known witches.

    Challengers’ final match

The year has been significant for polyamory, and Challengers’ triple was in the centre of it all. The most intense sequence, however, was not the nearly threesome between Josh O’Connor’s Tashi Duncan, Zendaya, and Mike Faist’s Art Donaldson, but rather the film’s finale, which featured a tennis-racquet taunt and a tied score played to a Reznor score, directed by Luca Guadagnino. Whether you are a member of the West Side Tennis Club or not, it is rather simple to recreate. Obtain a pack of Penn balls and a set of Wilson racquets. Art’s Uniqlo-branded polo can be substituted with an Old Navy shirt, and Skims’s flannel sleep shorts resemble Patrick’s. Tashi’s sunglasses on the sidelines are allegedly Persol brand, according to Reddit users.

    Immaculate with Sydney Sweeney

Thanks to Sydney Sweeney’s role as a scream queen in Immaculate, this eerie outfit is possible. The basic idea of the film is this: There is a “immaculate” conception and the story takes place in an Italian convent. But at the end, of course, everything’s a gory mess. You might dress in Sweeney’s novice outfit, which consists of a white undershirt, jumper dress, and veil with a collar, rather than her entire habit. Remember to use the fake blood!

Chappell Roan’s VMA performance in Joan of Arc cosplay

Chappell Performance art like the one Roan displayed at the VMAs hasn’t been seen since Lady Gaga’s meat outfit. With his sword unsheathed, Roan appeared on the red carpet. Roan accepted the head-to-toe chain mail award for Best New Artist. And Roan, dressed like Joan of Arc, sang “Good Luck, Babe!” The knight effect can be achieved by wearing a chained coif, bracers, and a chest buckle. (If you’re the organised kind, you can wear this outfit again whenever Baz Luhrman’s Jehanne d’Arc is released.) And keep a microphone handy.

Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega in “Taste”

Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste” music video features a plethora of horror Halloween Costume references (Psycho, Kill Bill, etc.), including a few sequences lifted directly from the camp classic Death Becomes Her. The funeral that sticks in your memory the most features Carpenter and Jenny Ortega dressed as widows’ weeds, standing in front of the coffin of the partner they fought over and for whom Carpenter received a gash in his stomach and Ortega a knife in his eye. Wear veiled fascinators, little black gowns, imitation diamonds, and crimson nail lacquer to create your own tribute to the tribute.

Industry’s Yasmin Kara-Hanani as Diana, Princess of Wales

This year, Industry was a dominant force, taking over as Succession’s heir and the drama of distinction to watch. The third season episode, “Company Man,” allowed the Pierpoint staff to have a little fun during the company’s Children’s Investment Trust Charity Day, even though you can pretty much always bank on the characters wearing well-tailored suits. Sweetpea channelled Geri Halliwell from Spice Girls, while Eric channelled Henry VII. However, Yasmin’s portrayal of Princess Diana seemed particularly appropriate given what the media are covering her through—her father’s passing, the government’s investigation into her boyfriend’s business, etc. Put on a Pierpoint sweater in place of the Harvard one, pair it with cycle shorts, and add “diamond” studs to look like Yasmin-Diana. Complete the look with a blonde wig, but make sure it’s a poor one.

Cole Escola’s Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!

The Broadway production of Oh, Mary!, which stars Cole Escola as Honest Abe’s patient First Lady, is the hottest ticket. According to Vulture’s review, the play is “a work of deranged beauty: a version of Mary Todd Lincoln played with all the verve and severity of Bette Davis on bath salts, told (as the press release teases it) ‘through the lens of an idiot.” We have a seat! Wearing a Victorian mourning gown (a crinoline is recommended), an antique brooch, a Puritan-style collar, a heatless curling rod, and lots of blush is a commitment-worthy Halloween Costume.

    NYC’s Trash Revolution

Taking out the trash has occupied a large portion of Mayor Eric Adams’s tenure Halloween Costume, which adds interesting context to the current news stories concerning corruption and illicit political contributions. However, before Adams got into trouble for himself, he introduced a new garbage can for the world’s biggest city, turning the previous year’s “War on Rats” into this year’s “Trash Revolution.” This is a concept for true New Yorkers only; all you’ll need is a roll of waste bags, a printout of the Department of Sanitation seal, and a basic trash can (or the actual one, which costs $46 plus tax). Organising a group to “throw more black bags into the dustbin of history” will earn you bonus points. Just be cautious around rats and try your best.

Anna Delvey (and her ankle monitor) on Dancing With the Stars

Scammer Anna Sorokin (née Delvey), from the Lower East Side, left her mark on the Dancing With the Stars dance floor once again. Being one of the first competitors eliminated, we didn’t get to witness many of her moves. However, despite competing against such notable athletes as Olympic sensation Stephen Nedoroscik (better known as Pommel Horse Guy) and reality show veteran Phaedra Parks, her ankle monitor for house arrest stole the show. You may channel the counterfeit German heiress by dressing outrageously in fringe and adorning an ankle bracelet with phoney rhinestones that showcases the face of your Apple Watch.

Pommel Horse Guy and his Rubik’s Cube

There were many striking sights and unforgettable experiences from the Paris Olympics, all of which would make excellent Halloween costumes. The French Olympics mascot, which confused people by resembling a pair of tongues, Raygun breakdancing, Céline Dion’s solo on the Eiffel Tower, Simone Biles’s amazing comeback, Lady Gaga dancing in pink ostrich feathers on the banks of the Seine, and Snoop Dogg hosting were among the highlights of the event. But Stephen Nedoroscik’s viral role as Pommel Horse Guy has to be our choice for finest costume. The world was won over by the gymnast and Rubik’s Cube guru as he swooped in to win the bronze for the U.S. men’s team, their first medal since the 2008 Games, as well as the solo competition. If you bring the right amount of excitement, it’s a simple Halloween Costume that will have you receiving high fives all night. A bronze medal, this Rubik’s Speed Cube, a Team USA T-shirt or jacket, and a pair of black spectacles are required. It would also make a very cute Halloween Costume for a toddler or young child.

    Kamala Harris and Tim Walz

When it comes to little citizens who resemble models, nothing is funnier than kids dressing Halloween Costume up as lawmakers in suits. The obvious choice for this year is Kamala and Tim dressed in their trademark ensemble: her suit from her widely shared speech about the coconut tree (bring an inflatable, tote bag, or coconut toy of your choice) and his well-worn, favourite red flannel paired with a real tree-camo baseball cap or campaign pin. Extra points for including an adult or young Lil Jon in the mix to serve as the hype guy for the event.

    The Biebers and Baby Bieber

August saw the birth of Jack Blues Bieber, the first child of Justin and Hailey Bieber. Even though there is only one image of his foot wrapped in a warm blanket that costs $100 and is claimed to be from Barefoot Dreams, dressing up as one of the members of the newly extended Bieber family is a simple last-minute Halloween Costume idea for anyone who also has a baby. Just take inspiration from the couple’s easygoing look, including a small Jack of Hearts tattoo, lip gloss, and a Rhode phone cover, and dress your significant other in a onesie with Justin Bieber’s face on it.

    Strega Nona

You have probably seen the Strega Nona videos if you spend any time on TikTok browsing cute stuff or watching sassy Italian grandmothers make spaghetti. Strega Nona is a member of the exclusive group of stylish fictional witches who use their abilities for good, much like Miss Frizzle did before her. You will need a headscarf, an apron and full skirt, a “magical” pasta pot, and an item that looks like a tonne of pasta, like yarn, to play her. Add Big Anthony and Strega Amelia, the witch from over the mountain who is Strega Nona’s antagonist, to make it a family or group Halloween Costume.

This year, there will undoubtedly be a plethora of brat Halloween Costume, but we venture that the most of them won’t feature a young youngster donning a bright green T-shirt and brat label. The summertime motif takes on new significance all of a sudden.

The release of the sequel, Beetlejuice 2, makes Beetlejuice the ideal Halloween film. Costumes inspired by the movie’s major characters become more fashionable thanks to Beetlejuice. It’s also a great family Halloween Costume: parents may dress up as Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice or Winona Ryder’s Lydia, and Jenna Ortega’s Astrid would be ideal for a gloomy teen.

The 25th anniversary of The Sopranos

Not surprisingly, Tony Soprano’s show continues to draw in new viewers even after 25 years of feeding ducks in his swimming pool. Tony’s cousin-in-law Christopher Moltisanti, who wears sunglasses and a neck brace, is a great choice for a simple yet effective costume. Tony will find it easier to close the transaction with a gold chain and an orange juice carton, and Chris will benefit from an oversized suit with a purple shirt and tie.
