Are you prepared to start 2019 with a bang? Take a look at these chic shoe trends for 2024 that are direct off the SS24 and AW24 runways.

The Biggest Shoe Trends For 2024

Although shoe Shoe Trends are at an all-time low and flats are king, fashion may be at an all-time high, but shoes are literally hitting the floor. Are you curious to learn more? The following are the top shoe trends expected in 2024:

    Trends At A Glance

    1. Pop of Red
    2. Thigh-Highs
    3. Blended Legs
    4. Kitten Heels
    5. Sweepers
    6. Flip Flops & Sandals
    7. Metallics
    8. Slouch Boots
    9. Ballet Flats
    10. Toe Cut-Outs
    11. Biker Boots
    12. Rounded Toes
    13. Platforms

    1. Pop of Red

Since red is currently the hue of the year, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if it appears throughout 2024. Ruby, scarlet, and red hues were showcased by designers during the AW24 presentations as a striking splash of colour on the catwalk, mostly through footwear selections that contrasted with more subdued colour schemes. We adore red heels and are thrilled to see them make a reappearance in fashion.

    2. Thigh-Highs

Thigh-high boots are another style of footwear that is becoming more and more popular. Reminiscent of the noughties (we imagine Andy Sachs from The Devil Wears Prada would be proud), designers have tackled the trend by combining an expanded leg with other well-liked Shoe Trends styles from the past several years. Imagine maximalist platforms, ultra-covered cowboys, and biker boots.

    3. Blended Legs

While we’re talking about tall boots, how about full-coverage shoes? Another trend that emerged with AW24 was the blended leg, which included blending the Shoe Trends invisibly into the leg of the clothing—whether it be leggings, tights or pants—to produce the illusion that the garment is made of one continuous, uninterrupted sweep of colour, pattern and texture.

    4. Kitten Heels

Not a big lover of extremely high heels? You’re in luck, though. Anticipate the resurgence of the kitten heel in 2024, a style distinguished by its little heel. According to Amy Smith, a Vendula London fashion specialist, “many designers have resurrected the kitten heel shape and given their own take, despite consumers often considering these Shoe Trends as being “grandma-ish.” Consider striking hues, statement heels, and the debut of kitten heel slip-ons and boots.

    5. Sweepers

“Sweepers,” or Shoe Trends with 3D decorations that stretch their profile or allow them to trail onto the floor, will also be a popular kind of statement shoes. In 2024, this emerging shoe trend—which features ultra-fun styles that flirt with maximalism—will bring back the drama in footwear. We’re talking metallic expanses of fabric, 3D bows, streamers, and chandelier tassels made of diamonds.

With shapes that encompass the foot, toe, and leg in addition to the heel, the trend for AW24 appears to have moved towards a larger celebration of texture. Think feathers, beads, pearls, bows, crochet, and lace.

    6. Flip Flops & Sandals

Reimagining the flip flop and sandal comes right after the Birkenstock renaissance (thanks, Barbie). Amy notes that during several recent fashion weeks, “many designers decided to send models down the runway in flip flops, with minimal styles seeming to be the most popular.” While it is undoubtedly a more casual trend, you can dress it up or down for the warmer months.

How will sandals change for AW24, too? Later in the year, if you have the guts to wear your toes outside, be prepared to resort to ultra-chunky boyish sandals (think dadcore) with bold colours and athletic accents.

    7. Metallics

This year, metallics were included in every piece of apparel, accessory, makeup, and footwear that was worn on the runway. It’s safe to predict that really sparkly Shoe Trends will be in vogue in 2024. They’ll be seen in classic gold and silver hues as well as coloured metals (pink, green, and orange are our favourite), glitter, and sequins.

Early in the year, vibrant metallics set the standard; however, AW24 says we’ll be returning to solid silvers and (sometimes) sparkles. Imagine liquid metal, with a focus on incredibly clean and smooth surfaces.

    8. Slouch Boots

In 2024, nostalgia-driven fashion trends will still be very popular, with a focus on Y2K and early 2010s looks. According to Amy, “slouch boots appear like they might become trendy again in 2024 after being popular in the early 2000s.” Nonetheless, there seems to be greater emphasis on the boots being slouchy and wider than in the 2000s bohemian versions, with some designers producing versions that could be adjusted or cinched in at the legs.

    9. Ballet Flats

Ballet flats should become increasingly popular in the coming year as balletcore is still very much in style. Ballet flats, a staple of the street style scene, have truly come into their own as designers experiment with cutouts, fabrics, forms, and accessories for 2024.

Ballerinas will be a year-round, transseasonal mainstay in 2024, according to the AW24 runway, but with an even bigger focus on actual “ballet” elements like straps and bows. After all, this is the year of the coquette.

    10. Toe Cut-Outs

Are you prepared to flash those toes? If you wish to be in style in 2024, you might have to. With their cheeky and unusual cutouts, open-toe shoes are making a major comeback as designers strive to upgrade traditional footwear designs. We’re talking split-toe brogues, long, open-toed sock boots, sandal-boot hybrids, and pointy heels that rise above the toes.

    11. Biker Boots

Though cowboy boots may be going out of style, biker shoes are coming storming in to become the must-have shoe style in 2024. Biker boots are a little thicker than cowboy boots; they typically have a black colour, a flatter sole, an unstructured style, and lots of buckles. Although both boot types are still quite popular, we’re also seeing a combination of the two, with goth glam boots that have a basic design.

    12. Rounded Toes

Regarding forms, in 2024 shoe styles should become more circular—literally. Although the pointed toe is the hallmark of kitten heels, a shift towards rounder toe shapes has been hinted at on the catwalk. Future shoe trends should have a more rounded, academic-led aesthetic, from ballet flats to mules and heels.

    13. Platforms

And last, the modest platform—the only additional height that’s proving to be well-liked among shoe enthusiasts—is the final shoe style we predict will be huge in 2024. Amy notes, “Ballet pumps have been back in style, which has overshadowed platform shoes, even though they have never really gone out of style.” Based on the appearance of models wearing platform loafers, sandals, and boots, it looks like many different types of shoes might get platforms in 2019.
